Party Records
Every person who is associated with a case (plaintiff, defendant, respondent, inmate) must have a party record. After a party is added, that party can be linked to multiple cases. Special parties, such as attorneys, bond companies, officers, and schools, are also maintained using the standard party record.
A party is defined as:
•  A person, group, or entity constituting alone or with others on the sides of a proceeding, transaction, or agreement.
•  A person involved in the prosecution or defense of a judicial or quasi-judicial proceeding that would be bound or substantially affected by the decision or judgment.
•  An individual or organization with standing before a court such as a plaintiff or defendant.
•  Someone who is part of the legal matter to be contested.
Examples include jurisdiction, plaintiff, petitioner, defendant, and respondent.
When creating a party record, you may choose to enter only the basic details about the party. Then, as additional party information is received, update the party record.
Participants
A participant is a person involved in the case, but not a direct party to the legal action.
Examples include witnesses, victims, executors, guardians, children, and third-party defendants.
