Case Types Code Fields
Case Types codes indicate the type of case being added. Since these case type codes are user defined, you can set up a code for each type of case entered in your office. Used in combination with the case subtype codes, this option allows you to create very specific case types (for example, divorce with and without children). The following fields are displayed when configuring these codes.
 
System-Wide Code and Description Fields
Field Name Field Description
Show this code for Location Select this check box to enable the code for the selected location.
Use for API only Select this check box to indicate that the code is only for use with an application program interface (API).
Code The code word you previously entered is displayed here, but you can enter a different code if needed. If you enter a code word that has already been assigned to another code, a warning message is displayed, as codes must be unique.
Code words can contain numbers and uppercase or lowercase letters. You can also include periods, dashes, underscores, and parentheses. The word ALL cannot be included in the code word, regardless of case.
Description Type a description for the code.
Mappings (ALT+M) This option is not available for all codes. If mapping is available for the code, click this link to map codes in Odyssey to state-specific codes.
System-Wide Effective Information Fields
Field Name Field Description
Effective Date If the code is not available until a specific date, enter the date that the code becomes available.
Obsolete Date If the code becomes obsolete (meaning it is no longer used) or will become obsolete at some point in the future, enter an obsolete date.
The code is considered to be inactive when it reaches the obsolete date and remains obsolete until the date is removed or changed to a future date. When a code is made obsolete, it is no longer accessible to the users and cannot be selected.

Base Case Type From the drop-down list, select the base case type to associate with the case type code.
Location Case Types Behavior Fields

Style Format Click Image to select the style format to use for this case type code.
Default Status From the drop-down list, select the default status to associate with this case type code.
Inactive Status From the drop-down list, select the inactive status to associate with this case type code.
Default Events Click Image to select the default events to associate with this case type code.
Default File Location Click Image to select the default file location associated with this case type code.
Case # Format From the drop-down list, select the case number format to use on this case type code.
Case Token Type the case token to use with this case type code.
Case # ID Pool From the drop-down list, select the case ID pool to use when this case type code is used.
Use Citation # as Case # Select this check box to use the citation number as the case number when this case type code is used.
Juvenile Case Flag Setup Fields
Field Name Field Description
Flag Case if Defendant is Juvenile Select this check box to add a case flag to the case type when the defendant on the case is a juvenile.
Validation Date From the drop-down list, select the date to use when validating when to use a juvenile case flag on this case type code.
Case Flags Click Image to select the case flag to add to the case when the defendant on the case is a juvenile.
Party Setup Fields
In the Party Setup section you can set up specific parties to default on a case when this case type is used. Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the party type to default on this case type.

Type After you have selected an extended connection type to default to the case type, the party type is displayed in the table in the Party Setup section.
Image Click to select a specific party to default on this case type.
Copy Addr. Select this check box to show a prompt requiring an address of a party already associated with the case when adding a party or linking an existing party with this connection type to the same case.
After you have completed the party setup information, you have the option of selecting the order in which the parties are displayed. Click the Order link, and move the party order as necessary.
Participant Setup Fields
In the Participant Setup section, you can set up specific participants to default on a case when this case type is used. Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the participant type to default on this case type.

Type After you have selected an extended connection type to default to the case type, the party type is displayed in the Participant Setup section of the table.
Copy Addr. Select this check box to display a prompt requiring an address of a party already associated with the case when adding a new party or linking an existing party with this connection type to the same case.
After you have completed the participant setup information, you have the option of selecting the order in which the parties are displayed. Click the Order link, and move the party order as necessary.
Disposition Page Fields
The Disposition Page section enables you to enter data related to the information and options on the Disposition page.
Field Name Field Description
Plea / Sentence / Judgment The name of this field depends on the base case type selected for this case type code.
Type the link word you want to be displayed to add a plea, judgment, or sentence.
Disposition Components
This table in the Disposition Components section enables you to select which dispositions to make available or default on the case type code. Select the check box from the Available column next to the disposition you want to make available on this case type code.
If you want the selected available disposition type to always be displayed with the case type code, select the check box from the Default column next to the disposition in addition to the Available check box.
Available Label Configurations
Click Image to select the label configuration codes to use when this case type code is used.
Available Security Groups
Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the security groups to add to cases that use the specified case type code.
Auto Attorney Assignment
Field Name Field Description
Attorney Pool From the drop-down list, select the attorney pool to be used for auto attorney assignment on case add for this case type.
Lead Staff Task From the drop-down list, select a staff task type to be used for the Lead Staff Assignment which will result from the Auto Attorney Assignment for this case type.
Case Close Defaults
Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the case close default settings for this case type code.
Prevent Case Close Default Fields
The Prevent Case Close Default section enables the user to configure options that will prevent the user from closing the case under certain criteria.
Field Name Field Description
Case Balance Not Equal to Zero Select this check box, and then select to either Warn Only or Prevent a case from being closed when the case balance is not equal to zero.
Outstanding Bond(s) Exist on Case Select this check box, and then select to either Warn Only or Prevent a case from being closed when one or more bonds are outstanding on the case.
Active Offense(s) Exist on Case Select this check box, and then select to either Warn Only or Prevent a case from being closed when active offenses are on the case.
Future Hearing(s) Exist on Case Select this check box, and then select to either Warn Only or Prevent a case from being closed if hearings are still scheduled on the case.
Active Warrant(s) Exist on Case Select this check box, and then select to either Warn Only or Prevent a case from being closed if active warrants exist on the case.
Active Protection Order(s) Exist on Case Select this check box, and then select to either Warn Only or Prevent a case from being closed if active protection orders exist on the case.
Available Extract Label Formats
Click Image to select the label configuration codes to use when this case type code is used.
Auto Judge Assignment Fields
The Auto Judge Assignment section enables you to enter information related to automatic judge assignment settings.
Note: Judge assignment on appellate cases is different. This configuration does not function on appellate cases.

Assign on Case Add Select this check box to assign a judge when cases with this case type are added.
Use Offense Group Assignment First Select this check box to first search for a judge based on the judge's offense group assignment.
Judicial Officer Required on Case Add Select this check box to require a judicial officer to be added on case add when using this case type code.
Judicial Officer Required on Case Reassign Select this check box to require a judicial officer to be added on case reassignment when using this case type code.
Judge This field is only available when either Judge Configuration or Judge Path if Assign on Case Add is selected. From the drop-down list, select the judge to assign to all cases with this case type code.
Configuration Click Image to select the judicial assignment configuration for this case type code.
Default Judge Configuration From the drop-down list, select the default judge configuration to use for auto judge assignment with this case type code.
Judge Path From the drop-down list, select the judge path to use for auto judge assignment with this case type code.
Warrant Defaults Fields
The Warrant Defaults section enables you to enter information related to warrant default settings.
Note: This section is not available for appellate cases.

Warrant Number Sequencing Select this check box create a unique warrant number by adding a sequencing number, which is the case number, to the warrant number.
Warrant Type Warrant # Format Select this check box to create a unique warrant number by using the warrant number format configuration on the warrant type.
Quick Add Default Templates Fields
The Quick Add Default Templates section enables you to enter information related to case and citation default settings.
Field Name Field Description
Citations From the drop-down list, select the configured template to use on the citations using this case type code.
Cases From the drop-down list, select a configured case template to use for this case type code.
Do Not Perform Party Matching during Case Add Select this check box to bypass party matching during case add on cases of this case type.
Require Ext. Connection Type(s) for Case Add Select this check box, and then select to either warn or prevent a case from being added if extended connection types are not selected on this case type code.
Types This field is only available when the Require Ext. Connection Type(s) for Case Add check box is selected.
Click Image to select the type of extended connection to require on a case using this case type code.
Default Attorney Ext. Connection Type From the drop-down list, select the default attorney connection type to be displayed on the selected template when adding a case of the case type.
Auto Add Hearing Fields
The Auto Add Hearing section enables you to configure the case type to automatically schedule hearings when the case is added.
Note: This function is not available for appellate cases.

Add Hearing on Case Add Select this check box to add a hearing on case add to cases using the specified case type code. If this check box is selected, then a judge must be selected in the Auto Add Judge section.
Use Judge from Hearing on Case Add Select this check box to assign the judicial officer for the case from the hearing that is scheduled on case add.
Precedence From the drop-down list, select which assignment should take precedence on cases of this case type-hearing assignment or judge assignment.
Hearing Type From the drop-down list, select the hearing type to use on cases created using this case type code.
Session Type From the drop-down list, select the session type to use on cases created using this case type code.
Between n and n Days Type the minimum and maximum number of days that you want to look into the future for an available hearing session.
Avoid ranges with a difference of more than 150 days.
Appear By Fields
The Appear By section enables you to enter information related to the appearance information settings.
Field Name Field Description
Add Appear By Date to Case Detail Tab Select this check box to add the Appear By field to the case Detail tab. Then, select whether to make the Appear By field optional or required.
Calculate Appear Date Select this option to automatically calculate appearance dates. Then, from the Calculate From Citation's drop-down list, select either to calculate the appear-by date by the ticket date or charge date.
Number of Days Type the number of days out from the ticket date or charge date you want the appear-by date to be set as for cases created using this case type code.
Avoid Weekend/Holidays Select this check box to ensure that the calculated appear-by date does not fall on a holiday or weekend. Then, in the Resource and Reason drop-down lists, select the resource unavailability table to use when checking for holidays and weekends, and select the reason as the holiday.
Financial Fields
The Financial section enables you to enter information related to financial settings.

Auto Assess at Case Initiation Select this check box to automatically assess fees at case initiation for cases using this case type code.
Calculate Financial Due Date Select this option to automatically calculate financial due dates. Then, from the Calculate From drop-down list, select either to calculate the financial due date by the appear-by date, case file date, charge offense date, or citation ticket date.
Number of Days Type the number of days out from appear-by date, case file date, charge offense date, or citation ticket date you want the appear-by date to be set as for cases created using this case type code.
Avoid Weekend/Holidays Select this check box to ensure that the calculated financial due date does not fall on a holiday or weekend. Then, in the Resource and Reason drop-down lists, select the resource unavailability table to use when checking for holidays, and weekends and select the reason as the holiday.
Only if Non-mandatory Appearance Select this check box to only automatically assess financials if all charges on the case with this case type code are non-mandatory court appearances.
Assess to First From the drop-down list, select the party type to which the financials should be assessed first.
Display Warrant Warning on From the drop down list, select where to perform the active warrant check and to display a warning if one exists.
Warning About From the drop-down list, select whether to warn about any warrants on the specified case or any warrants on any party related to the case.
Update Due Date with Appear By Date Select this check box to update the financials' due date with the appear-by date.
Available Time Tracks
Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the time tracks to make available on this case type code.
Auto Magistrate Assignment
The Auto Magistrate Assignment section allows you to enter information related to automatic magistrate assignment.
Field Name Field Description
Assign on Case Add Select this check box to automatically assign a magistrate to a case on case add.
Magistrate Required on Case Add Select this check box to require a magistrate to be added to a case before a case can be added.
Magistrate From the drop-down list, select the magistrate to automatically add to the cases with this case type code.
Configuration Click Image to select the magistrate configuration to use when assigning a judge to a case with this case type code.
Group ID
The Group ID section allows you to enter information related to the Group ID field settings.
Field Name Field Description
Add Group ID to Case Detail tab Select this check box to add the Group ID field to the Detail tab of a case. Then, select to make that field required or optional.
Lead Case Types
Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the lead case types that are allowed to be added to cases of this case type.
Related Case Types
Click Image, or select an existing entry to select the related case types that are allowed to be added to cases of this case type.
Search Locations
Select the locations to be searched when using the Find Cases search option for this case type.
