Escheatment is the process of turning over unclaimed or abandoned funds collected by the court as restitution to a state authority.
Escheatment processing allows you to run a draft version of a monthly report that lists cases with restitution with their
total in escrow based on the last transaction, both collected and disbursed, and the age of the last transaction. You can
also generate a final version that also converts undisbursed escrow payments to another recipient for disbursement.
As part of the disposition of a case, a party can be ordered to pay restitution. When restitution payments are received by
the court, the funds are disbursed to the victims, or recipients, identified on the case.
If no victim has been identified or no valid address is available for an identified victim on a case that is receiving restitution
payments, the funds will remain in escrow for specified amount of time. Once funds have remained unclaimed for the specified
time they are considered ‘unclaimed funds’ and can be disbursed to the state authority.
