Early in the Odyssey design process, a decision was made to present the application in a browser. Every Odyssey "screen" is
actually a web page.
Odyssey developers carefully avoided certain common Internet or web features such as moving banners, spinning icons, and other
eye-catching but resource-intensive features. We created “modal" dialog boxes that require users to perform an action before
being allowed to continue on and close the page. An Odyssey user is completely insulated from the browser toolbar. In fact,
it doesn't even exist.
Standard Windows and browser features are used to streamline repetitive tasks, maximize efficiencies and organize complex
data into useful information. For example, Odyssey incorporates such standards as
tooltips, dynamic scrolling and font resizing, links, and the use of
icons.
Odyssey also provides users with other common Windows conventions. Online help is available on every page just a single click
away. Also, menu options such as
File,
Edit, and
View can be used via
hot key shortcuts. Buttons and file folder tabs are context sensitive and administrator definable. Odyssey avoids using confusing browser conventions,
thus offering a consistent and functional way for users to manage their business.
