Case Summary Tab
Case information is divided into tabs, and the first tab displayed when accessing a case is the Summary tab. This tab contains basic information about the selected case and is designed to provide an overview. There is no data entry on this tab; the displayed information is pulled directly from other case tabs.
To access the Summary tab, simply locate an existing case using the case search options. The link to the Time Standards tab is present when an overdue or active time standard exists on a case. The link now uses the same color-coding standard as the Time Standards tab (for example, active = black, overdue = maroon). Cases with both active and overdue time standards display the link using the color for overdue time standards, which is maroon.
The top portion of the page provides basic information about the case and case parties, including the style, outstanding warrants, confidentiality, status, case origin, date filed, the type, the court location, any judicial officers or magistrates for the case, any financial balances, and the lead attorney. Financial balances and the lead attorney are only displayed on criminal cases. Data displayed in this section is dependant on the product center you are using.
The rest of the page is divided into the following sections, depending on the case type you are viewing.
Section Name Section Description
Charges
Found on criminal cases only, Charges identifies all criminal charges brought against the defendants connected to the case. This includes the degree of the charge and a brief description. Click Charges in the header to access the Charges tab.
The Charge ID Number and Sequence Number field on the charge are displayed in this section. These are used to uniquely identify the charge throughout all the integrated judicial products. This field has a site-configurable label that may be displayed as the charge ID, TRN/TRS, or OBTS/Seq#. Original charges as well as current filing offenses are displayed. "Filed As" is displayed before the original charge.
The following information is displayed for each charge in this section:
•  Charge description including the arrest and offense report and case filing date.
•  Charge status
•  Case number and case filing information
•  Charge decision
•  Defense attorney link
Causes On civil cases, Causes displays information regarding the reason, action date, and remedy and amount sought by the plaintiff. Click Causes in the header to access the Causes tab.
Dispositions Displays the plea and disposition outcome for each charge. Click Dispositions in the header to access the Disposition tab.
Future Activity Displayed only if there are future events and hearings scheduled on the case (prior to the current, or today's, date).
Most Recent Events & Hearings / Case Summary
All the docketable events entered for the selected case under the Events, Hearings, or Disposition tabs are listed in descending chronological order. If future events have been entered, those are displayed first and separated by a dark green line from the events that have already occurred. Disposition events and statistical closures, which are entered on the Disposition tab, are displayed in purple text and in all capital letters so they are easily identifiable. Hearing results are also displayed when applicable.
You are able to configure your system to display comments related to case events directly under the case events descriptions on the Summary tab and the Register of Actions page.
The comment is noted in italics and is displayed directly under the event description and before any additional event information.
When parties are associated with a hearing, the extended connection type is displayed in addition to the party name under the Most Recent Events & Hearings header.
Click the Events link in the header or the View more events link to access the Events tab. Click the Hearings link in the header or the View more hearings link to access the Hearings tab. The View more links are displayed only after there are more than 10 events/hearings information listed in this section.
If there is a Cause of Action field on the event, each cause of action’s parcel number and description is displayed to the right of the cause of action code description. The parcel number and description are separated from the cause of action with a colon. If the cause of action has both parcel number and description, then a hyphen displays between the two.
There is also a link on the Events & Hearings header that allows you to view and/or print a summary of the case. Since the name of this case summary sheet is user defined, the name of the link reflects the name used in your office (for example, Case Summary, Docket Sheet, Register of Actions).
Statistical Closure Lists the case statistical closure as well as the date it occurred. Any related statistical closure comments display in italics under this field as well.
Defendant Demographics This section displays defendant information including the date of birth, driver’s license number, Social Security number, state identification number, and physical descriptors such as height, weight, and hair and eye color.
Case Cross Reference The Case Cross Reference link takes you to the case Details tab where you can enter cross-referenced cases. The format of the case reference numbers displayed on the case Detail tab is the same as that of the Summary tab.
Case File Since court personnel may need to access a case file at any given time, Odyssey allows you to track the physical location of the file at all times. Files that are associated with the case are located under this header. Click the header to access the View Case File History dialog box. This dialog box lists each instance when the case file was moved and includes any comments that were entered when the file was moved.
Flags & Actions Due
Flags that have been associated with the selected case under the Detail tab are displayed under this header. You can click Flags in the header to access the Detail tab and enter or modify flags. Depending on your system configuration, the appear by date may be displayed.
The Actions Due include docketable events that have a due date but no completion date, non-docketable events that have a due date but no completion date (if you have the right to view non-docketable events), and outstanding service items (i.e., service items that either have not been served or have been served but have a response due and no response event). After a completion date is entered, that event is removed from the list. You can click the event to access the Events tab and make modifications if needed.
The Flags & Actions Due section displays the 10 most recent events on the case that have a due date. To view any additional flags and actions, click View More Actions Due to open the Events tab with only events with a due date displayed.
When applicable, the Flags & Actions Due section lists an Exhibits Exist link that connects you to the Exhibits tab, as long as the exhibit does not have a destroyed status.
Related Cases Cases can be linked to related cases under the Detail tab. If the selected case has a related case in the system, that case number is displayed under this header along with the related case reason. Active related cases are displayed as blue hyperlinks and inactive related cases are displayed as black hyperlinks. Click the case number link to access the Summary tab for the related case.
Placements Guardianship cases display the most recent placement information on the case. The Placements section displays the party, placement start and end dates, placement type, agency type, and natures of incapacity.
Note: Your system administrator can configure case flags to appear in a dialog box instead of in the standard message area. When displayed in the dialog box, you must acknowledge the case flags by clicking OK on the Case Flags dialog box.
